Our arts platform, InReview – by the numbers

Since it successfully launched back in February, South Australia’s newest home for arts journalism has published more than 164 stories from 49 contributors. The first 10 editions of the weekly eDM, sent to more than 60,000 registered subscribers have covered 24 art forms and generated a quarter of a million page views. Average time on page has been an impressive 2m 40s.

Over the festival season we published 67 reviews of Adelaide Fringe and Festival performances combined and we continue to work with Writers SA on ‘A Year in Review’ which sees Australian book reviews published at least once monthly.

Our most read article covered the Illuminate Adelaide program launch but the story that generated the biggest reader response was ‘Adelaide needs fearless critics’ which was written by respected arts executive Rainer Jozeps.

InReview has been warmly welcomed to the arts ecosystem by our arts colleagues, arts practitioners, audiences and readers and we look forward to seeing our coverage evolve over the next 12 months.

SALIFE now in Coles, new Premium Property on sale August 5th

We’re excited to announce that SALIFE magazine is now even more widely available than ever before. From May 6, SALIFE magazine will be available in Coles supermarkets in South Australia. For more than 17 years, SALIFE devotees have known they can get their own monthly copy by subscribing or visiting their local newsagent or Foodland supermarket – and last year we added 36 select Woolworths stores to our distribution. However, these 56 new Coles distribution points will introduce thousands of new potential readers to SALIFE magazine every month.

SALIFE Director of Sales Brooke Seward said, “We were excited to see a significant 8% increase in retail sales of SALIFE magazine – bringing new readers to SALIFE in a challenging marketplace.”

SALIFE Homes and Interiors Magazine is to become SALIFE Premium Property, on sale August 5th. The much-loved annual has always been an essential guide for South Australians thinking of building, renovating or redecorating, but our coverage has now expanded to include editorial coverage on SA’s booming real estate market. SALIFE Premium Property will be bursting with design inspiration, showcasing the favourite rooms of South Australian designers, alongside beautifully-presented product pages featuring the latest in home decoration, furniture and homewares. As always, SALIFE Premium Property will explore some of the most aspirational private homes in the state, essential reading for all those looking for inspiration or perhaps just dare to dream.

Events program update

We finally got to celebrate the achievements of individuals, groups, organisations and towns that have made significant contributions to regional South Australia at the delayed Regional Showcase awards night at O’Leary Walker Wines in the Clare Valley. The event allowed the state’s regions to come together at an awards night to acknowledge the collective impact on South Australia. The 30 finalists and six individual award category winners were awarded on Friday evening at an event that also recognised the AgTown of the Year, announced by Minister for Primary Industries and Regional Development David Basham. The 2021 program is underway and we’re always on the look out for relevant stories from the regions.

In February and March we ran a number of themed boardroom lunches, hosted by Daniela Ritorto, attended by selected businesses featured in last year’s South Australian Business Index program. The lunches generated plenty of discussion across the various themes, providing additional content and coverage for our sponsors.

This year’s 40 Under 40 awards program launched in March, highlighting the innovation, commitment and diversity of the State’s young leaders. More young South Australian businesspeople have put their hands up than ever before, despite a shorter nomination period than last year. More than 600 referrals and 200 completed applications have been received in this – its fourth year. A panel representing the South Australian business community is in the process of judging the nominees against the selection criteria, with the winners to be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday June 10 at the Adelaide Convention Centre and featured in the June edition of CityMag. Tickets are on sale now

Agreements signed with Google and Facebook

As a political battle raged between Google, Facebook and the Federal Government over its mandatory bargaining code designed to force the tech giants to ‘pay for news’, Google launched its News Showcase product in Australia. It features news content from a range of Australian publishers, including InDaily and our sister sites InQueensland and The New Daily. Designed to bring value to both publishers and readers by providing a licensing program that pays publishers to curate content for story panels across Google services, it also gives readers more insights into the stories that matter. This initiative offers an opportunity for us to continue growing our audience for important local content while providing us with access to new markets and additional commercial benefits.

Not to be outdone, following the passing of the Mandatory News Media Bargaining Code in Federal Parliament we signed a letter of intent with Facebook to pay for its public interest journalism. We were one of the first independent news publishers the only South Australian-owned news publisher to sign an agreement with Facebook.
