The Queen’s Wall

Queen’s Wall is a dynamic public art installation that transforms the west wall of Adelaide’s Queen’s Theatre into an interactive promenade. Celebrating the theatre’s 185-year history, it features seven key narratives through a wall installation, an Augmented Reality (AR) app with virtual reconstructions, and podcasts with interviews and dramatized scenes. These elements, based on academic research, bring history to life in an engaging way.

The design embraces the 32-meter wall, overcoming the challenges of the uneven height and limited sightlines. It invites visitors into the lane through the installation’s vibrant imagery, balancing the space and creating an intimate experience. More than thirty artists and four digital companies contributed to the project.

The Queen’s Wall project successfully revitalizes a neglected space, offering an interactive gateway to Adelaide’s past. Future updates on the Queen’s Wall website will further expand the experience, deepening the connection between the city’s history and its present.
